See the Finest Works Featured at the New Show at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Experience some of the most prized pieces in the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s collection at Old Masters Now: Celebrating the Johnson Collection. This special show celebrates the legacy of one generous donor, John G. Johnson, who helped make Philadelphia a monumental figure in the art world 100 years ago by gifting a tremendous array of master works to the City. This unique exhibit brings all of the pieces donated by Johnson together for the first time, gathered to highlight both the 100-year anniversary of Johnson’s gift and Parkway 100, the centennial of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Described by The New York Times as “the greatest lawyer in the English-speaking world,” John G. Johnson bequeathed his staggering private collection of 1,500 European artworks to Philadelphia in 1917. The Philadelphia Museum of Art 's exhibition Old Masters Now: Celebrating the John G. Johnson Collection focuses on the amazing collection and its collector, who lived during a time when Philadelphia was a manufacturing and financial leader of the world. Visitors can see the work of artistic masters that Johnson brought to the city including Botticelli, Bosch, Titian, Rembrandt, Monet, and more. It’s a one-of-a-kind collection that explores the fascinating history of Philadelphia, so be sure to see the show at the Philadelphia Museum of Art!
